Knights Lose Scoring Touch, Fall To Liberty

BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Southern Virginia University lacrosse team matched goals with visiting Liberty University in the first part of the game, but the Knights found little offense in the middle periods of the game, falling 13-7. In a first period that saw a tie game three different times, SVU was able to get four goals. The visitors were in a scoring mood, and the teams went in to the break with nine goals scored and a 5-4 score line that favored Liberty.

After going down 2-0 to start the game, SVU scored 4-straight goals to get their only lead of the game. Ben Dieker continued a fine freshman campaign as he kicked off the scoring on a man-up opportunity for the Knights.

Thomas Trammel tied the game with an assist for Ben Tillotson. Tillotson would then bend the net with a fine goal off a Dieker assist. Dieker would then get a second goal, as he exploited a second man-up opportunity for the hosts.

Liberty would answer with three straight goals to close out the period. The Knights went quiet on the offensive end in the second period scoring no goals, and watching Liberty pull away. The Flames scored two goals to take a 7-4 lead in to the half.

LU would use four goals in the third period to get a large cushion heading into the final period. SVU was able to get two goals in the third term to get closer. Dieker would get his hat-trick in the third, and Trammel would add his second.

The fourth period saw Liberty pull away, as the registered two goals before Dieker would finish out the game with his fourth goal of the afternoon.
