Knights Lacrosse Announces Recruiting Class

BUENA VISTA, Va. Southern Virginia lacrosse head coach, Chad Mahaffey, has announced the recruiting class of 2010. The team will wwelcome 11 recruits as fall practice opened for the Knights earlier this month. The large freshman class consists of eight attackmen/midfield, three defensive long-poles, and one goalie.

"We are really excited to have such a large recruiting class. These freshmen are players who just love lacrosse. They're coming in focused and ready for the college game," Mahaffey said.

Tylor Bayer, Fr., 5-11, 155lbs., Petoskey, MI/Petoskey High

2010 Offensive Player of the Year at attack for Petoskey High.

Benjamin Dieker, Fr., 6-1, 170lbs., Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County High

At attack for Douglas County, Ben earned All-Conference honors his junior (2nd team) and senior (1st team) years.

Chase Sawyer, Fr., 5-9, 170lbs., Front Royal, VA/Jefferson Forest High

Chase captained the JF High boy's lacrosse team during his sophomore and senior years.

Bryson Reed, Fr., 5-10, 155lbs., Cookeville, TN/Cookeville High

Earned All-Region his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons as a attack/midfielder for Cookeville High School.

Sam Pond, Fr., 6-2, 170lbs., Poway, CA/Poway High

Pond comes from a respected California high school program. He will be an asset as a defensive midfielder.

Jason Wynne, Fr., 5-9, 190lbs., Alpharetta, GA/Milton High

Jason joins the team with one year of experience, but his desire and passion for the game makes him an asset to our team.

Sam Garcia, Fr., 5-9, 150lbs., Salt Lake City, UT/Olympus High

Coming from a growing lacrosse hotbed, Sam will join our midfielders as a face-off specialist.

Jason Winther, Fr., 6-1, 175lbs., Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore High

Returning from Denmark where Jason was a member of the Danish National Team, he will be a vital part of our defensive unit.

 Bradon Yorgason, Fr., 6-2, 150lbs., Eagle Mountain, UT/Lehi High

Bradon captained the Pioneers his senior season and was a member of the Utah Division 2 All-Star Team as a defender.

Duke Babka, Fr., 5-9, 220lbs., Draper, UT/Jordan High

Another addition to our renovated defensive line, Duke will join Winther and Yorgason in anchoring the Knights defense.

Channing Caldwell, Fr., 5-9, 160lbs., Eagle Mounting, UT/Lehi High

Earning 2nd Team All-State and 1st Team All-Star as a goalie at Lehi High School, Channing will join veteran Jordan Sorenson between the pipes.
