Knights Fall In Closing Game Of The Season

BUENA VISTA, Va. The Southern Virginia University Lacrosse team faced a daunting task, as they faced off against an Elon team that was ranked 10th in the MCLA D.II polls, and could not find a way to stop the Phoenix, losing 17-5. The visitors took control of the game early on as they rattled off five straight goals before Greg Lane was able to get one past the Elon keeper. The 5-1 lead for the visitors would be the closest the Knights would get, as Elon quickly answered the opening Knights goal with a goal of their own.

The second period proved an equal battle as SVU was able to gain some composure, and tallied two goals to Elon's three, as the Knights went in to the break trailing 10-3. Lane added another goal in the second, and Parker Bird added the third for SVU.

The third period proved too much for the Knights, as Elon ripped the net three more times for a commanding 10-goal lead. SVU mustered two more goals in the fourth, both from Brandon Flood, as the Knights made a game of the fourth, limiting the Phoenix to only four goals.

Despite the loss, SVU finishes the season with an overall 5-4 record. The winning season is the first in the history of the program.
