Alan Whitehead is the assistant varsity coach for the men’s basketball program at Southern Virginia University. He played basketball for Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) where he was an NJCAA Academic All-American. Whitehead previously coached in the new Athletics program at BYU-Idaho after intercollegiate sports were eliminated. This is his first year as the assistant coach with the Knights.
Whitehead also serves as the Director of Admissions for the university responsible for the enrollment of all new students. He is currently a Ph.D student studying Industrial/Organizational Psychology. He plans to focus his dissertation research on Positive Psychology and Humor Studies. He earned an MBA from Argosy University in Denver and his undergraduate degree in Business Management from BYU-Idaho. Whitehead served as an LDS missionary in Houston, Texas. He and his wife, Nina, reside in Buena Vista with their daughter, Azalea.
