Wardenburg Drops Men's Basketball 2019-20 Schedule

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Southern Virginia University's first-year head men's basketball coach Adam Wardenburg today announced the upcoming 2019-20 schedule.

"Our schedule this season will help prepare us for a great conference schedule," said Wardenburg. "This year, we will see a few different types of playing styles. Some games will be uptempo, and others will be slower paced. We feel confident that this will get us ready for CAC play this year."

The Knight's season features a slate of 25 games with ten played at home inside Knight Arena. The team will be on the road for 15 games including participating in three tournaments and see Capital Athletic Conference action the last ten games of the season.

Southern Virginia begins their season at home as they will host Randolph of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference on Nov. 12. Following Randolph, the Knights head to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, for the Gettysburg Tournament where they will play a pair of games.

Southern Virginia will then look to steal a game on the road at Roanoke on Nov. 19 after last seasons heartbreaking 79-76 loss at home.

The Knights will then enter into a three-game homestand to conclude November starting with Whittier on Nov. 23, followed by a crosstown rivalry against Washington and Lee on Nov. 26 and later Pfeiffer on Nov. 30.

Southern Virginia will be roadwarriors during December playing all six games on the road beginning with Eastern Mennonite on Dec. 3; the Knights defeated the Royals last year 75-69.

The Knights next will head to the N.C. Wesleyan Tournament at Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where they will face N.C. Wesleyan on Dec. 6 and then the following day Greensboro on Dec. 7.

After a matchup against Hampden-Sydney on Dec. 14, Southern Virginia will travel to Winchester, Virginia, for the Shenandoah Tournament on Dec. 27-28.

The Knights open the New Year hosting Emory & Henry on Jan. 1 and later head to play William Peace on Jan. 7 to wrap up nonconference play.

Southern Virginia enters CAC competition with three consecutive home games, starting on Jan. 11 against Salisbury, followed next by last season's CAC Champions Christopher Newport on Jan. 15 and then on Jan. 18 against York (Pa.).

Christopher Newport and York (Pa.) both earned their tickets to the 2019 NCAA Tournament with York (Pa.) falling in the second round and Christopher Newport making a Final Four appearance before falling to the NCAA runner-up Swarthmore.

The Knights return to the road for their next three games opening with St. Mary's (Md.) on Jan. 25, followed by Mary Washington on Jan. 29 and their final matchup of the road trip against York (Pa.) on Feb. 1. Southern Virginia will host Mary Washington on Feb. 5 then travel to Salisbury on Feb. 8.

Southern Virginia's last home game will be on Feb. 15 as they play host to St. Mary's (Md.). The Knights close their season on the road at Christopher Newport on Feb. 19.

"We are ready to get to work and change the culture," said Wardenburg. "Establishing a great championship culture is vital in our progression forward. I am excited about the group that we have and believe this schedule will help us reach our goals."
