BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team fell in CAC basketball action to St. Mary's College of Maryland 75-71 in their final game of the regular season.
The Knights (4-21, 0-14 CAC) found themselves in a large hole in the first half as the Seahawks (10-15, 4-10 CAC) built up a 16 point lead, 39-23 with 2:37 left to play in the half. At that point, Southern Virginia was able to end the half on an 8-1 run, cutting the Seahawks lead to nine, 40-31 heading into the locker room.
In the second half, the Knights quickly cut the deficit taking the lead, 43-42 at the 16:54 mark. The rest of the half was a back and forth battle that featured several lead changes including Southern Virginia taking a five-point lead, 65-60 with five minutes left to play. The rest of the game was all St. Mary's, as the Seahawks ended the game on a 15-6 run defeating the Knights 75-71.
Tyler McCreadie led the way for the Knights posting a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Trey Dill and Alec Johnson also scored in double-figures, Dill with 16 points off the bench and Johnson with 11 points and five assists.
Seahawks guard, Justin Milstead was the leading scorer for the game with 23 points.
The Knights will begin CAC tournament action as they travel to Christopher Newport University for their quarterfinal matchup on the 19th of February at 8 p.m.
