Men's Basketball Downed by Spartans

Buena Vista, Va.— The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team remains winless in conference play after losing on Saturday afternoon to York College of Pennsylvania 70-61.

With the loss, the Knights fall to 4-17 on the season and 0-10 in CAC action.

The Knights and Spartans (15-6, 8-2 CAC) exchanged leads in a tight first half of play that ended with York on top 31-30.

In the second, Southern Virginia was able to keep the game close until the 8:42 mark when a made layup by the Spartans gave them a double-digit lead 54-44. From that point on, all of the Knights efforts were in vain, and they finished with the loss 70-61.

Jamier Cross had a game-high 18 points for the Knights to go along with six rebounds and three steals. Trey Dill and Jaron Anderson both finished the game in double digits, Dill with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Anderson with 13 points off the bench.

The Spartans had a very balanced game offensively as four of their five starters finished the game in double figures.

The Knights will return to action as they travel to Christopher Newport University on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
