BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team fell 77-54 to 18th-ranked (D3hoops.com) Christopher Newport University on Wednesday night.
CNU (14-2, 4-1 CAC) was firing on all cyllinders early and jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead. The Knights (4-12, 0-5) slowly fought their way back into the game, cutting the lead to one on a Sam Armstrong jumper with 5:38 remaining in the first half, but they would not get any closer.
After a quick timeout, the Captains extended their lead to nine, 39-30, heading into the break.
In the second half, the Captains eliminated Southern Virginia's hopes of a comeback and extended their lead to double figures. The Knights, who seemed to have the wind taken out of their sails for most of the second half, ultimately bowed out by a score of 77-54.
Despite the loss, center Tyler McCreadie had one of his best games of the season with 19 points on 8-9 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, two steals, and an impressive six blocks. Trey Dill was the only other player to score in double digits for Southern Virginia with 10 points.
