BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Capital Athletic Conference today announced the CAC Coaches' Poll with Southern Virginia University men's team tabbed eighth.
"This is good motivation for us as a team. As players and as a coaching staff we look to grow and improve in each and every game," said Head Coach Greg Winslow.
Last season, the Knights finished with an 11-14 record, improving by three wins in conference play and six wins overall.
The Knights will look to their returners to continue the programs rise after losing their top-three players last season, losing a good amount of offense and rebounding. The Knights averaged just over 70 points per game last year, nearly 8 points more than the previous years.
Returning for the Knights this season will be seniors Tyler McCreadie and Kellen Winslow. McCreadie will serve as the Knights primary post presence, while Winslow's flexibility will allow him to play multiple positions along the guard line.
A pair of juniors and a sophomore will generate the scoring and playmaking for the Knights. Alec Johnson, second in assists and steals last season and sharpshooter Sam Armstrong led the team in shooting from outside and finished fourth in the CAC in three-point percentage. Jaron Anderson is the leading scorer returning for the Knights.
"The team has been working hard this off-season. I look forward to seeing our players progress and face challenges with hard work and dedication," added Winslow. "We have a good chance for success; this looks to be a season we develop and build on previous seasons."
The Knights will start their season Monday, Nov. 12 at McDaniel, with tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Southern Virginia's home-opener will be Tuesday, Nov. 20 against Washington and Lee at 7:00 p.m.
