FROSTBURG, Md. — Despite a career performance from senior center Cale Thornton the Southern Virginia University men's basketball team fell 82-76 to Capital Athletic Conference opponent Frostburg State University on Wednesday evening.
The Knights (7-9, 2-7 CAC) outscored the Bobcats (7-9, 5-4 CAC) by 12 in the first half, led by 21 of Thornton's points. Frostburg turned the tables in the second period, outscoring the Knights and forcing the game into overtime. Justin Prisbrey earned the only overtime points for the Knights, capping his evening of scoring at 17 points. He also pulled down nine boards.
Southern Virginia held on to its lead for over 18 minutes of the second half, before Frostburg knotted the score at 74 with 1:52 left, and neither team would score again in regulation.
Thornton led all scorers with 30 points, shattering his old career-high of 18. Senior Aarun Rumbaugh chipped in seven points with a career-high 12 assists and nine rebounds, and Sam Armstrong sunk three treys off the bench.
The Knights head to Wesley College on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff. Earlier this season Southern Virginia won this matchup at home 93-63.
