BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team suffered a tough 83-58 loss at home on Wednesday night at the hands of Christopher Newport University in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The Captains (11-3, 5-2 CAC) led by nine at the intermission but outscored the Knights (7-7, 2-5 CAC) by 16 in the second half. Christopher Newport drained 12 three-pointers in the game, compared to four from Southern Virginia.

Aarun Rumbaugh and Spencer Brown were the lone Knights in double digits with 12 and 10. Rumbaugh also led the team with five boards and three assists. 

The Knights played without their big men Cale Thornton and Tyler McCreadie due to minor injuries. 

CAC play continues on Saturday as Southern Virginia hosts Salisbury University. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
