BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team earned a decisive 88-59 non-conference victory Saturday evening against Carolina Christian College.
The Knights (5-4, 1-3 CAC) scored the first bucket of the game jumped out to a 16-point lead in just eight minutes. At the half, the Knights led by 18, 45-27 on 50% shooting from the field.
The attack continued in the second half as Southern Virginia nearly matched its first-half performance, with 43 points and 50% from three.
Despite turning the ball over a season-high 27 times, the Knights outrebounded the Centurions 56-30 and outshot them 44.8% to 27.4%.
Twenty-six of the Knights' points came from the free-throw line, where the team shot 86.7%.
Jaron Anderson led all scorers with 18 points from the bench. Cale Thornton nearly had a double-double with 15 points and nine boards, and Aarun Rumbaugh led all players with 10 rebounds while chipping in eight points and five assists.
Sam Armstrong went 7-7 from the charity stripe and totaled 12 points.
The Knights will play their next game on Saturday, Dec. 16 against Randolph College. The location is to be determined.
