Men's Basketball Handed First Loss by Washington & Lee

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's' basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday night by a 96-57 margin at the hands of Washington & Lee University.

The Knights (3-1) led by as many as six points in the first half, but the Generals (1-2) surged late in the first half to extend the halftime lead to 11, 43-32.

In the second half, Washington & Lee drained four treys and 17 free throws as part of their 53-point half. The Knights were unable to make more than a pair of three-pointers in the contest and shot 35.6% from the field compared to WLU's 44.4%.

Both teams were pretty even on the boards, with the Generals picking up 46 rebounds and the Knights with 42. Senior forward Aarun Rumbaugh recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the contest.

Senior Cale Thornton pulled down eight rebounds and chipped in 12 points on the night. Jaron Anderson added 14 points off the bench as the only other player in double figures. 

The Knights open Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Penn St.-Harrisburg.
