MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team handed Penn St.-Mont Alto its first loss of the season after an 83-69 victory on the road.
The Knights (3-0) shot 40% from the three-point line and 49.2% from the field, led by freshman forward Jaron Anderson's 17 points. This is the first time Southern Virginia has won the first three games of the season since 2011-12.
The Lions (3-1) scored the first bucket of the game, and fought back and forth for the lead until the Knights took a lead they would never relinquish just four and a half minutes into the game.
Southern Virginia led by 11 at the intermission, before taking its largest lead of the game (16) just two minutes into the second half.
Sophomore Justin Prisbrey chipped in 12 points in the win, along with Alec Johnson who had 11 points off the bench as well as seven rebounds and seven assists. Center Cale Thornton pulled down ten rebounds. Senior Aarun Rumbaugh dished four assists and added seven points.
Both teams shot 8-13 from the free throw line, and the Knights outrebounded the Lions 44-26.
Southern Virginia is back in action on Tuesday at Washington & Lee University. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Lexington, Virginia.
