Men’s Basketball Season Preview

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team was picked for a ninth-place finish in the Capital Athletic Conference but is poised to make big improvements this year with a strong group of returners.

During the 2016-17 season, the Knights finished with a 5-20 record, defeating conference opponents Mary Washington, Penn State – Harrisburg, and St. Mary's (Md.).

"The experience we gained last year as a young team will pay dividends this year," head coach Tony Caputo said. "We are looking to do some different things offensively that should play to our strengths."

Aarun Rumbaugh, Tyler McCreadie and Cale Thornton return having led the Knights offensively during the 2016-17 season. Respectively, they averaged 9.1, 7.3, and 7.3 points per game. As a team, the Knights averaged 63.5 points per game.

Other returners include Sam Armstrong, Bennett Candland, Casuan Caudle, Brandon Caputo, Alec Johnson, Justin Prisbrey, Kellen Winslow

Joining the Knights this season is Jaron Anderson, Spencer Brown, Coulson Hardy, and Oga Odemena, and James Young.

The Knights will face off on against Shenandoah on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Knights Sports Arena.
