Southern Virginia University (4-11) vs. Christopher Newport University (13-5, 6-4 CAC)
The teams faced off on Dec. 4, 2013 at Knight Sports Arena with the Captains taking an 80-54 win. The Knights struggled offensively as they were held scoreless for five minutes during the second half, shot 35.2 percent from the field and were 31 percent on three-pointers. Seventeen turnovers led to 16 points for the Captains in transition.
Defensively, the Knights only recorded 21 rebounds and took the Captains to the free-throw line 14 times, allowing 10 points from the stripe.
About the Knights
Southern Virginia hopes to end a three-game skid as they travel to face the Captains. Junior guard Preston Eaton leads the Knights with an average of 16.8ppg. Eaton totaled 22 points previously against the Captains. He is also averaging 4.9 rebounds and nearly two steals per game.
Junior forward Wesley Evans contributes 10.6 ppg and leads the team with nearly seven rebounds per game. Junior guard Chris Baker adds 11.6 ppg, 4.2 assists and leads the team from the stripe at 78.9 percent.
The Knights look to sink more baskets, be more aggressive on rebounds and reduce the turnover ratio to help get back on track.

The Captains are shooting 35.7 percent from the field averaging 72.5 points per game. They are averaging nearly 40 rebounds per game and have a +5.8 rebounding margin.
Senior guard Tra Benefield leads Christopher Newport with 18.7 ppg, shoots nearly 50 percent from the field, and averages 7.3 rebounds per game.
Junior guard Mike Cherry averages 14.5 ppg and shoots nearly 75 percent from the free-throw line. Senior guard Luc Antangana leads the team from the stripe at 85.7 percent.
