BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team today received a No. 5 seed at the 2013 USCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship hosted by Penn State University-Fayette in Uniontown, Pa., from Feb. 26 to Mar. 2.

"We're excited about our bid to nationals in Uniontown, Pa., where the field looks to be the best ever," said first-year Head Coach Tony Caputo, who has led Southern Virginia (16-6) to its best record ever through 22 games. "That being said, I believe that we've played a tough schedule that has us fully prepared for a successful tournament run."

Southern Virginia men's basketball recently finished with the highest regular-season winning percentage (.727) in program history, barely edging the 2010-11 squad that finished its regular season at 21-8 (.724) on route to the program's first USCAA National Championship.

The 2012-13 Knights are riding a four-game winning streak into this year's national tournament, including last Tuesday's 73-52 victory over West Virginia University Institute of Technology that sealed Southern Virginia's 28th consecutive home win, as well as a perfect home record (8-0) for the third consecutive season.

Southern Virginia has now qualified for six consecutive national tournaments (2008-13)—the longest postseason streak in program history—and according to Caputo, this year's team is peaking at the right time.

"Our last home game against West Virginia Tech shows that we are heading into the tournament playing our best basketball of the season," Caputo said. "I look forward to next week and a strong finish."

Southern Virginia will open tournament play against No. 4 seeded Lindenwood University-Belleville on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. The Knights have defeated the Lynx in each of the past two national tournaments, winning 60-50 on Mar. 4, 2011 and 78-50 on Mar. 8, 2012, however, Lindenwood-Belleville has set program records this season for both wins (24) and winning percentage (24-4; .857).

The Knights are 10-1 (.909) this season against USCAA competition.
