BUENA VISTA, Va.—In addition to being honored prior to the start of Friday's game for becoming the third player in Southern Virginia University men's basketball history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark, senior shooting guard Casey Nye (Kaysville, Utah) earned another accolade today when the United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced him as the USCAA Men's Basketball Division I Player of the Week

"Casey [Nye] had a great weekend for us and has been an offensive contributor each of his four years in our program," said first-year Head Coach Tony Caputo. "To score more than 1,000 points in a career is a very impressive feat."

After being recognized in front of a ruckus Knight Sports Arena home crowd, Nye scored a season-high 25 points on an efficient 10-for-13 shooting in an 82-54 win over Virginia-Lynchburg on Friday.

He followed Friday night's perfromance with an 18-point outing on Saturday in the Southern Virginia's 88-69 victory over Berkeley College-New Jersey Saturday as men's basketball extended its university record home winning streak to 23 games.

In addition to his USCAA Player of the Week honors, Nye was also named MVP of weekend's Knight New Year Classic.

Nye now ranks third on Southern Virginia's all-time scoring list with 1,081 career points.
