MONTGOMERY, W.Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team suffered its worst loss of the season on Wednesday night falling 72-99 at West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
Southern Virginia (8-8) previously defeated WVU-Tech (14-6) at home on Jan. 10, but the Knights never led during Wednesday's rematch in the Baisi Center as the Golden Bears pushed their home record to 11-2.
Freshman Jaden Welsh (Ogden, Utah) was a bright spot for the Knights hitting 4-of-6 from behind the arc to finish with a career-high 15 points in 14 minutes off the bench.
The Knights have now lost two straight following their season-long five-game winning streak, but look to rebound this weekend at home against USCAA-rival The Apprentice School.
Southern Virginia, currently ranked No. 4 in the USCAA Coaches' Poll, enters Saturday's matchup with No. 3 Apprentice riding a program-record 16-game home winning streak. Read more about the Knights' unique home court advantage at scoop.svu.edu.
Saturday's game will be part of a double-header with women's basketball beginning in Knight Sports Arena at 2 p.m.
