Southern Virginia Outdueled in Union College Classic

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Despite a five-point lead late in the second half, the Southern Virginia University men's basketball team was unable to secure a win Saturday and fell to Reinhardt University, 80-77, on the second day of the Union College Classic.

Southern Virginia could not contain Reinhardt's Carrlos Lyles, who scored 35 points against the Knights, hitting on 13 of 19 field goal attempts, including six of eight from three-point range. Casey Nye led all Knight scorers with 25 points, while Spenser Briggs chipped in 17 points to go along with his five boards and five assists.

Men's basketball now faces one of its toughest stretches of the season, playing three road games in three nights against formidable competition.  Southern Virginia will open this stretch at NCAA Division I Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7:00. The following day the Knights will travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to face Bridgewater College at 6:00 p.m. in the opening game of the EMU Tip-Off Classic. On Saturday, Nov. 20, SVU will face host school, Eastern Mennonite University at 8:00 p.m. on the second day of the EMU Tip-Off Classic.
