LEXINGTON, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team was unable to handle Virginia Military Institute's defensive pressure Tuesday night and fell to the NCAA Division I Keydets, 94-78.
VMI's pressure caused Southern Virginia to commit 23 first-half turnovers as the Knights trailed the Keydets 55-25 at the half. Three-point shooting allowed SVU to come within 14 points of the Keydets with 3:49 remaining in the second half, but that was as close as the Knights would get as an 8-0 VMI run quickly put the game out of reach.
Freshman Anders Jacobson had his best game as a Knight on Tuesday, scoring 25 points while shooting 5-of-11 from three-point range. Spenser Briggs added 16 points and eight rebounds for Southern Virginia.
Men's basketball faces a back-to-back as it travels to Bridgewater College Wednesday, Nov. 24 for a rematch of last week's 67-54 win at the EMU Tip-Off Classic. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
