Knights Grind Out Win Over Penn State-Beaver, 70-64

MONACA, Pa. — In the first game of its back-to-back road trip, the Southern Virginia University men's basketball team defeated Penn State-Beaver 70-64 Friday night to sweep the season series with the Lions.

After defeating Penn State-Beaver at home earlier this month, Southern Virginia got off to a strong start at Beaver Fieldhouse and led the Lions 35-23 at the half.

The Knights still led 40-27 two minutes into the second half when the Lions rolled off a 17-6 run over the next eight minutes of play cutting Southern Virginia's lead down to two (46-44).  The Lions would come no closer as Southern Virginia never relinquished its lead in the second half on the way to a tough-fought road win.

Spenser Briggs led the Knights in scoring for the third straight game with 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Briggs also led pulled in a game-high 10 rebounds, eight of which came on the defensive end. Casey Nye continued his strong play of late with 17 points on 7-of-11 from the field.

Men's basketball faces a quick turnaround as they travel to take on Pitt.-Titusville tomorrow at 2 p.m.
