City of Buena Vista Honors Men's Basketball

BUENA VISTA, Va. — The City of Buena Vista today honored the USCAA National Champion Southern Virginia University men's basketball team for their outstanding accomplishments during the 2010-11 season.

Southern Virginia's storybook season culminated in the school's first USCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship as the Knights defeated Ave Maria University 83-67 on Saturday, Mar. 5, 2011 in Uniontown, Penn.

On the way to the title, Southern Virginia set program records for wins (24), consecutive wins (8), winning percentage (.750), and home-court dominance (8-0).

The Buena Vista City Council welcomed the Knights to Buena Vista City Hall, where J. Mikel Clements, Mayor of Buena Vista, presented the team and its coaching staff with a proclamation recognizing their accomplishments.

"It was extremely kind of the City of Buena Vista to take time out of their busy schedule to recognize our team," said third-year head coach Brian Pendleton.

"Our student-athletes are proud to say they are from Buena Vista, Va. as well as their own home towns and they represent our city very well."
