BUENA VISTA, Va. — After a memorable 2010-11 regular season in which the Southern Virginia University men's basketball team set program records for wins (21), consecutive wins (8), winning percentage (.724) and home court dominance (8-0), the Knights have now received a number two seed at the 2011 USCAA Men's Division I Basketball National Championship—the highest seed in program history—which will be held in Uniontown, Pa. from Mar. 1-5.
Second-seeded Southern Virginia will first play in Game 4 of the national championship against the tournament's seventh-seed, Marygrove College, on Wednesday, Mar. 2 at 1 p.m.
Last year Southern Virginia entered the USCAA National Championship as the third seed and went on to defeat sixth-seeded Hiwassee College and second-seeded Rochester College, before falling to Talladega College in the championship game.
"After losing all five starters from last year's team that finished second in the USCAA, this year has exceeded expectations," said third-year head coach Brian Pendleton.
"Our recruits have played at a very high level all season long and we have a well-balanced team with great chemistry. Our goal for the tournament is to be playing on Saturday for a trophy."
