Swann, Nye, and Johnson Lead Knights to Win At USCAA Tourney

UNIONTOWN, Pa. Ade Swann, Casey Nye and Terell Johnson combined for 59- of 89-points, as the Southern Virginia Men's Basketball team outlasted Hiwassee, 89-79, in it's first game of the USCAA Tournament. Swann led the Knights with 24-points, and was 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Swann was one assist shy of a double-double as he assisted on 9-basktes.

Johnson did get a double-double, as he pulled down 10-rebounds and put in 16-points. Nye was a solid contributor, shooting 8-for-10 from the field for 19-points.

The Knights trailed early on, but used a strong ending to the first half to go up 36-29. The halftime lead was never relinquished as SVU held a lead of 15-points at one point in the second term.

Hot shooting from Hiwassee guard Nick Hudson kept them in the game, and made for a frantic ending to the competition. Both teams looked to push the pace and possessions were used quickly, as Hiwassee looked to get closer, and SVU looked to put the game away.

SVU was effectively efficient as they shot 55% from the field on 32-of-58 shooting. The Knights won the battle of the boards, as they pulled down 46-rebounds, for a margin of +16 in comparison to Hiwassee.

With 8-minutes to go, both teams were in the bonus, and SVU made HC pay, as they went 21-for-27 from the free-throw line. The damage was done for the knights as they shot 69% from the field as a team in the second half.

SVU now moves to the semi-finals of the USCAA tournament. The Knights' semi-final match will pit them against either Rochester College or Northern New Mexico College. The game is scheduled for 12:00 pm EST. Audio of the game will be available on the SVU athletic website.
