Pendleton Paces Knights to Victory

WILMORE, Ky. Recording 23-points and 8-rebounds was enough for Bryce Pendleton as he led the Southern Virginia Men's Basketball team to victory over Cincinnati Christian 103-95. Unlike the previous day when the Knights went in to the half trailing, SVU was able to overcome the small deficit against CCU, and come out a winner. The win provides a split for the weekend at the Christian College Classic hosted by Asbury College.

"Bryce played a very solid game for us," said Head Coach Brian Pendleton. "He gave us great energy and his scoring was very consistent. We played two good NAIA schools, and a split is great for us. We had a disappointing evening last night, but our performances have been good, even if the results didn't show. I'm happy with where we're at right now as a team."

Cory Evans continued his strong play for the Knights as he scored 16-points and pulled down 6 boards. He also contributed 2 assists and 4 steals for a strong weekend performance. Casey Nye produced a solid effort as he went 8-11 from the field and 4-4 from the line to put in 20-points. Nye also recorded 4 assists, and Pendleton felt he had a good weekend leading the Knights second team. The Knights again outperformed their opposition from the bench as SVU reserves accounted for 34-points to 29 for CCU.

The Knights trailed by two at the half, 42-40, and also were down by nine at 53-44, before the team got hot and outscored CCU 63-53 in the second to get the 8-point win. The Knights had five players in double figures, and totaled 38 rebounds in the game. SVU shot 53% from the field, and 41% from beyond the three-point arc. The Knights also put in a solid effort from the free-throw stripe as they went 20-26 in the game. The 103-point total marks the first time SVU has broken the century mark this season.

SVU is now 4-2 on the season. The Knights return to action Nov. 24, when they face off against NCAA D.III foe Bridgewater at home. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 tipoff.
