Knights Return To Winning Ways With Triumph Over Bluefield

BUENA VISTA, Va. Cory Evans led all scorers with 20-points as the Southern Virginia Men's Basketball team sprinted to a fast start and maintained a double-digit lead throughout, to win 74-63 over Bluefield. The Knights established a presence early, as Bryce Pendleton asserted himself to score 10- of his 12-points, and helped SVU lead by as much as 18-points in the first half.

The hosts went to the locker room at the break, up 40-23. The first-half saw the Knights get two players into double-digits, as both Pendleton and Evans paced the Knights' stranglehold on the game. Marquis Williamson and Ade Swann were not far behind, with 8- and 7-points respectively, as they created a large hole for the Rams to try and climb out of.

The Rams made a game of it early in the second half as they cut the lead to 10-points. The visitors had bounced back from a slower start to the second term, with the Knights jumping to a lead as big as 20-points. The lead would only grow for the hosts after Bluefield got to within 10. At one point, SVU had a lead of 25-points after a pair of Evans free-throws.

The Knights had a solid shooting night as they went 24-for-58 from the field. The damage to the visitors was done from the free-throw line for the Knights, as they went 20-of-25 from the line.

SVU held an advantage on the glass as they pulled down 35-rebounds to the Rams' 29. Evan was the team leader. Ram forward, Omar Reed, led all players with 13-rebounds, and dumped in 17-points to finish the night with a double-double.

The hosts were able to have four players in double digits, as Pendleton finished with 12-points and Williamson and Swann both got 13-points to go along with Evans' offensive output.

The Knights are now 13-8 on the season. The win clinches a second consecutive winning season for the program, and is only the second winning season in the history of the program. SVU will finish the regular season at home Feb. 23 when they host Washington Adventist. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
