Pendleton Explodes For 27 As Knights Beat Shipbuilders

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. Bryce Pendleton poured in 27-points as the Southern Virginia Men's Basketball team beat Apprentice 87-70. Pendleton went 9-for-12 from the field and 7-for-8 from beyond the three-point stripe. He also corralled 4-rebounds and contributed 3-assists as the Knights started their 7-game road swing on a winning note.

Southern Virginia established a lead early on in the game, and set the pace for the night as they headed into the halftime with a 16-point lead at 45-29. Shooting 53% from the field as they shot 17-for-32 in the first half, the Knights limited the Builders to only 30-attempts and 10-conversions. A pre-season concern for Southern Virginia coaches has been steadily improving as the visitors out-rebounded Apprentice 39-35.

Newly crowned Co-USCAA Player of the Week Cory Evans put in another solid display for the team as he put in 13-points and pulled down 6-rebounds. Evans and Pendleton were joined by Chris Lewis in double figures, as Lewis put in 16-points to help the cause.

The Knights again made their trips to the free-throw line count as they converted on 15-of-18 attempts. The three-ball was also falling as the Knights hit 8-of-20 from beyond the arc.

Southern Virginia is now on a 4-game winning streak, and stands at 11-4. The Knights continue the road swing when they head to play Washington Adventist, Jan. 23. Tip-off is to be announced this week.
