BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University field hockey team were dealt a 5-0 loss in their home-opener at Knight Stadium Wednesday night.
The Royals (3-3) scored twice in the first quarter with goals from Skylar Hedgepeth and Brandy Troutman coming in the games 11th and 14th minutes.
In the second quarter, the Knights (0-6) allowed a goal in the 26th minute to give the Royals a 3-0 lead at the half.
The Knights offense had their only shots of the game occur early in the third quarter of the game when Caitriona Knowles and Karenna Olson each recorded a shot on goal. The Royals built upon their lead after netting two more goals to lead now 5-0.
The Knights for the third consecutive game managed to shutout their opponent but were unable to score on the offense eventually falling 5-0.
At goal for the Knights was freshman Kyla Nase who recorded 17 saves, reaching double-figures in saves for the fifth-consecutive game.
Southern Virginia will conclude their short two-game homestand next Tuesday on Sept. 24 at 6:00 p.m.
