SEWANEE, Tenn. — The Southern Virginia University field hockey team fell 5-0 against Sewanee Saturday afternoon at Puett Field.
The Knights' (0-5) defense stood tall in the first quarter holding the Tigers (2-3) scoreless until the 3:38 mark when Alex Hornsby scored an unassisted goal for an early 1-0 lead.
Sewanee added to their lead in the second quarter to take a two-goal lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Tigers distanced themselves from the Knights after finding the back of the net three more times to take a 5-0 advantage.
The Knights for the second consecutive game shutout the Tigers in the final quarter of play but were unable to shrink the Sewanee lead, making the final score 5-0.
