Field Hockey Drops Contest to Goucher

BALTIMORE, Md. — The Southern Virginia University field hockey team dropped its matchup Saturday against Goucher 8-0.

In the first quarter, the Knights' (0-3) trailed the Gophers (2-1) after an early goal in the 3rd minute of play.

The Gophers extended their lead by adding two more goals in the second quarter to take a 3-0 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, the Knights defense blanked the Gophers, keeping the score 3-0 heading into the final quarter of play.

The Gophers offense exploded in the fourth quarter, scoring five more goals to overpower the Knights 8-0.

Kyla Nase tallied a dozen saves at goal in the loss while Caitriona Knowles and Karena Olson were the only Knights to take a shot.

Southern Virginia finishes heads into the final game of their five-game road trip Friday, Sept. 13 at Sewanee starting at 5:30 p.m.
