BUENA VISTA, Va. — Southern Virginia University women's field hockey head coach Camille Lamb today announced the program's inaugural 2019 season schedule.
"I am extremely excited for our inaugural NCAA season to begin," said Coach Lamb. "Our schedule is going to provide opportunities for growth and serve as a proving ground for us. It may be challenging, but I know our athletes are up for whatever comes our way."
The Knights kick off the regular season with a five-game road trip beginning at Notre Dame (Md.) on Aug. 31 in Baltimore, Maryland. Four days later, Southern Virginia travels to Randolph-Macon on Sept. 4, followed by games at Goucher on Sept. 7 and a two-game matchup with Sewanee on Sept. 13 and 14.
Southern Virginia welcomes Eastern Mennonite for their home opener on Sept. 18 at Knight Stadium. The Knights will then host Ferrum College nearly a week later on Sept. 24.
After a road matchup with Bryn Athyn on Sept. 28, Southern Virginia returns to Knight Stadium to play Roanoke on Oct. 2.
The Knights meet Sweet Briar for the first of their two matchups on Oct. 4 in Sweet Briar, Virginia, before hosting the Vixens on Oct. 16.
Capital Athletic Conference action starts for the Knights in York, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 12 against York (Pa.). Southern Virginia's first home CAC matchup will be Oct. 18 against St. Mary's (Md.).
Southern Virginia travels for their next two games against the CAC runner-up and then the champions.
Christopher Newport concluded its season with a second-place finish in the CAC with a No. 16 national ranking. The Knights are slated to face the Captains on Oct. 23 in Newport News, Virginia.
CAC champions Salisbury University ended their year ranked No. 6 in the country following their strong season after advancing as far as the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Southern Virginia is set to face the Sea Gulls on Oct. 26 in Salisbury, Maryland.
The regular season wraps up at home for the Knights as they will host Mary Washington on Oct. 30 at Knight Stadium.
