Garry Walker enters his second season as an outside linebackers/defensive line coach for the Southern Virginia University football program.
In the 2014 season he helped Southern Virginia's defense tally 15 sacks during the season as well as recover eight fumbles, intecept seven passes, and record 73 tackles for a loss.
A native of Kamas, Utah, Walker has over 36 years of experience as both a head and assistant coach at the high school level in Utah and New Mexico.
His coaching career began at Kirtland High School in Kirtland, N.M. where he served as an assistant. He then served as an assistant coach at South Sevier High School in Monroe, Utah, for a few seasons.
At Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, Utah, he had the opportunity to coach his son, Jason, who currently serves as the head football coach at Southern Virginia.
After his time at Ben Lomond, he served on the coaching staff at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah, for 11 years. Walker finished his high school coaching career as an assistant at South Summit High School in Kamas, Utah, where he retired following the 2013 season.
Wlaker was also an assistant coach at Lehi High School in Lehi, Utah, and the head coach at East Corban High School in Price, Utah.
Walker coached football, basketball, wrestling, soccer and track and won championship titles in football, basketball and wrestling.
Walker was an all-state football player for South Summit High School and went on to play football at Snow College.
Garry and his wife, Cynthia, are the parents of six children: Jason, Joshua, Julie, Justin, Jadrian and Jodi.
