Dale Sprague enters his first season as an assistant defensive line coach for the Southern Virginia football program.

Sprague comes to Southern Virginia with a variety of coaching experiences as he has also coached wrestling at North Colonie Central School District, Alleghany County Schools and women’s track at Saranac Central High School. He also coached women’s basketball at Moriah Central High School and baseball at Western Maryland College, Wabash College, St. Lawrence University and Moriah Central High School.

Sprague has overseen the football programs at State University of New York at Plattsburgh, Blackburn College, Western Maryland College and Ursuline Academy. He coached the offensive line at Wabash College, Saint Lawrence University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Middlebury College, Springfield High School, Alleghany County Schools and Washington and Lee University. He has also overseen the defensive line at Springfield High School, Alleghany County Schools and Washington and Lee.

Sprague has coached a number of All-Americans and All-Conference players and has led various teams to championship titles.

He received a bachelor's degree in secondary-elementary education from the American International College in 1976 and a master's in education from State University of New York in 1978.

While attending American International College, Sprague was a member of the football and baseball programs.

Prior to American International College, Sprague lettered in football, basketball and baseball at Moriah Central High School in Port Henry, N.Y. He helped lead his football team to three CVAC titles and was named a CVAC All-Conference quarterback and defensive back. He also helped his basketball and baseball teams to CVAV and Section VII titles. Sprague was named an All-CVAC first baseman and received a university Scholar-Athlete award.

Dale resides with his wife in Clifton Forge, Va.
