Scott Clough enters his first season as the offensive coordinator of the Southern Virginia football program.
Clough comes to Southern Virginia from Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla., where he served as the team's offensive coordinator since the 2011 season.
Over the span of his career, Clough has coached 22 all-conference players and 11 All-Americans (five first team, two second team, four honorable mention). Three of his offensive players earned the conference's Player of the Year award over the course of his coaching career, including two from Bacone.
He also has significant postseason experience, coaching in the Red River Bowl in 2000 and 2001, the Heart of Texas Bowl in 2003 and 2004 and made NCAA Division II playoff appearances in 1990 (Northern Colorado) and 2006 (Angelo State).
At Bacone, Clough coached the 2013 Central States Football League Player of the Year, wide receiver David Chapman, as the Warriors were named co-champions of the league with Southwestern Assemblies of God. He also coached the 2012 CSFL Offensive Player of the Year in running back Tyler Thomas.
Prior to Bacone, Clough served as the offensive coordinator at Angelo State from 2005-10. Before his tenure at Angelo State, he was the offensive coordinator at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, from 1999-2004.
From 1995-1998, Clough served in multiple capacities at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, including the passing game and special teams coordinator before becoming the offensive coordinator in 1996. One of his wide receivers, Bryan Gilmore, was named the 1998 Player of the Year for the Lone Star Conference (NCAA Division II).
Before Midwestern State, Clough served as the offensive coordinator at Mesa State from 1991-94 and as a quarterbacks/wide receivers coach at Northern Colorado from 1989-90. His assistant coaching career began at Colorado State University from 1984-88 as a linebackers/running backs coach following a one-year stint as a defensive graduate assistant in 1983.
A walk-on linebacker in 1978 at Colorado State, he went on to earn a scholarship in 1980 and became a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter for the Rams. Clough was named to the 1982 Western Athletic Conference Academic All-WAC team and was a WAC scholar-athlete from 1980-82.
Clough earned a bachelor of science in physical education from Colorado State and a minor in anatomical science in May 1983. He went on to earn a master of science in exercise sport science from CSU in December 1990.
Scott and his wife, Janet, are the parents of two children: son, DJ, a high school football coach at Elgin High School in Elgin, Texas, and daughter, Susan, a nursing student at Angelo State.
