Nathan Bigelow enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Southern Virginia football program assigned to oversee the tight ends unit. He will also serve as the team's Director of Operations.
In 2014 the Knights averaged 29.2 yards by a tight end and had one receiving touchdown by tight end Michael Carroll.
Bigelow joined the Knights by way of Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, where he served for two seasons as the tight ends coach.
At Snow, he coached four tight ends who went on to achieve NCAA Division I scholarships from the likes of Utah, Utah State and Middle Tennessee State.
A native of Portland, Oregon, Bigelow coached at Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon, for the 2011 season.
Before Sunset, he served on the coaching staff at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah, primarily overseeing the defensive line from 2007-10. For the 2007 and 2009 seasons, he assisted with the offensive line where he helped coach Xavier Sua-Filo, who went on to play at UCLA and was drafted last month by the Houston Texans of the National Football League.
While at Timpview, he also coached defensive lineman Bronson Kaufusi, who currently plays on the defensive line at BYU.
Bigelow served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 1998-2000.
He graduated from Brigham Young University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in history.
Bigelow enjoys camping and fly fishing in his spare time.
