BUENA VISTA, Va. — Football looks to return to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and Southern Virginia University this spring following the announcement of the conference's condensed 2021 spring season schedule.
"We are excited to announce the 2021 spring season schedule," said head coach Ed Mulitalo. "With everything that we have been through this past year, we are ecstatic to start the year with football."
The Knights' four-game spring schedule consists of a pair of home games at Knight Stadium and two road games against four of the eight other teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) over five weeks.
Southern Virginia will open their spring season with back-to-back away games—first traveling to Hampden-Sydney College for their Feb. 26 opener followed by the next week's kickoff against Emory & Henry College on Mar. 5 at Fred Selfe Stadium at Nicewonder Field.
The Knights welcome crosstown rivals Washington and Lee University for its home-opener on Mar. 12. After hosting W&L, Southern Virginia concludes with its final regular-season game against Ferrum College on Mar. 19 at Knight Stadium. The fifth week of play will serve as the team's bye week.
In Week 6 the top eight teams will play a fifth game which will also serve as a means to determine a league champion. Matchups for the week will be determined by standings from the first four games.
"We are excited to compete for a second year in the ODAC," added Mulitalo. "We can't wait to see our young talent. We have some key contributors on both sides of the ball who will look to lead us."
"We can't wait to start the season," continued Mulitalo. "This fall was unconventional in so many ways due to the outbreak of COVID-19. We still pulled together and grew stronger as a team. I have been thrilled to see our players' commitment and see our veterans and our younger athletes join forces to push each other. With having a condensed schedule, I would like to see urgency, accountability, and continuity help carry ourselves through the spring and into the 2021 fall season."
Last season the Knights recorded their best record (4-6) since joining Division III.
