BUENA VISTA, Va. — Southern Virginia University's head football coach Ed Mulitalo today announced the 2020 football schedule.
"We are excited to announce the 2020 season schedule," said Mulitalo. "Our schedule provides us with a road map for us to begin and navigate our 2020 journey. We look forward to playing our ODAC competition after we finished our inaugural season in the conference."
The Knights ten-game schedule consists of five home games at Knight Stadium and five road games featuring two non-conference matchups and eight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contests.
The Knights will open their year with back-to-back home games—first hosting Wilmington College (OH) for their Sept. 3 season-opener followed by the next week's conference-play kickoff when Bridgewater College—the reigning ODAC champions—come to Knight Stadium. Following Southern Virginia's first road game of the season at Hampden-Sydney College on Sept. 19, the Knights enter their bye week.
After returning to action at home against Shenandoah University on Oct. 3., the Knights travel for a two-game road trip against Emory & Henry College and Randolph-Macon College in consecutive weeks before returning to Knight Stadium for Homecoming on Oct. 24 against Ferrum College. Following a road game at Guilford College on Halloween, the Knights close out their ODAC schedule on Nov. 7 when they host cross-town rivals Washington & Lee University on senior day.
"We are excited to compete for a second year in the ODAC," added Mulitalo. "Playing well agains the conference's top teams—some of the best teams in DIII—will help us take the next steps toward becoming a high-caliber type football program.
"We can't wait to start the season," continued Mulitalo. "This spring and summer will be unconventional in so many ways due to the outbreak of COVID-19. There are many serious things to think about besides football, but many ways, sports are a metaphor for life that help us overcome adversity. When football begins again, I think we'll appreciate it a bit more."
On Nov. 14, Southern Virginia will travel to Allen University (SC) for the first time in school history for the final game of the 2020 regular season. The first round of the NCAA DIII Tournament will be held the following Saturday, Nov. 21.
Last season the Knights recorded their best record (4-6) since joining Division III.
