BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University football team suffered a tough loss at home on Saturday afternoon, losing 33-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup.
"I am proud of our defense, they have done everything we have asked of them. I enjoy seeing the fight in the team, we are a young team and we are still in a growth phase," said Head Coach Ed Mulitalo. "We are working towards building a strong culture playing for each other and never quitting."
The Knights (2-5, 1-5) were unable to put any points up on the board in the first half. The Southern Virginia defense held the Sea Gulls (7-0, 6-0) to just six points in the first half.
In the third quarter, the Sea Gulls were able to build upon their lead scoring a touchdown coming on a Mike-Ryan Mofor rush with the lead reaching to 13-0.
Mike-Ryan Mofor was not done as he added three more rushing touchdowns extending the lead to the final score of 33-0.
The Knights defense swarmed to the Sea Gulls triple offense and forced several turnovers. Junior Neil Davis led the defense with a dominant night recording 19 total tackles and a fumble recovery. Bishope Apodaca recorded 14 total tackles and 0.5 sacks with teammate Sergio Mamone also hitting double figures in tackles with 10. Caleb Thomas led the team with sacks with 1.5 for the afternoon.
The Knights will be on the road for their next game when they take on Frostburg State Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m.
