DOVER, Del. — The Southern Virginia University football team suffered a New Jersey Athletic Conference loss on Saturday afternoon, falling 49-0 to No. 22 Wesley College.
The Wolverines (3-1, 3-0 NJAC), who have the number one ranked defense in the country, held the Knights (0-5, 0-5 NJAC) to just seven first downs and 120 yards of total offense.
Southern Virginia was able to record 67 yards rushing, led by Akiva Wedge who recorded 21 yards. John Harris ran for 20 yards while freshman Nash Jones recorded 15 yards on the ground; Caeden Knight and Jewka Patetefa each had 12 yards.
Quarterback Tate Briggs completed 3-8 passes for 48 yards. Dylan Peters had the Knights' longest reception of the game, a 29 yarder. Defensively Neil Davis racked up 13 tackles while Mitch Orme added nine and Skyler Cloward picked up eight, including a sack and two tackles for a loss.
Wesley took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, and 42-0 in the first half of play. The Knights only allowed seven points in the second half.
Southern Virginia will return home on Saturday, October 7 for the Homecoming game against Apprentice. Kickoff will be at Knight Stadium at 1 p.m. EST in Buena Vista, Virginia.
