Southern Virginia Names Meifu Offensive Coordinator

BUENA VISTA, Va.—Southern Virginia University head football coach Tyler Hughes today named Mike Meifu as his offensive coordinator.

Meifu comes to Southern Virginia from Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, where he served as co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach this past season.

"I'm excited to have a coach of Mike's caliber coordinating our offense and the offensive line," Hughes said. "He's a hard worker and brings another winning attitude to the program."

During the 2012 season at Snow, Meifu served as the running game coordinator and coached an offensive line that consisted of two all-conference players who helped pave the way for the NJCAA's leading rusher, Breon Allen.

"I'm very excited and grateful to Southern Virginia University to be a part of the university and the football program," Meifu said. "I have worked with Coach Hughes for many years and I'm excited for the vision he has here and the direction the football program and the university is going. I can't wait to meet the players and get it rolling."

From 2009 to 2011, Meifu coached tight ends at Snow, tutoring two NJCAA All-Americans as well as three players who went on to earn four-year scholarships at other universities. In 2011, Snow added special teams coordinator to Meifu's list of responsibilities. He also served as the Badgers' summer football camp director for three years.

Before coaching, Meifu played fullback for the Badgers and saw significant playing time as a freshman in 2006 before tearing an ACL in the final game of the year, forcing him to sit out the 2007 season. He returned for the 2008 season and was a key member of a team that finished 11-1 and played for the NJCAA national championship.

Between his time as a player and coach at Snow, Meifu helped Snow to an 82 percent winning percentage, two national championship appearances, six Top 10 finishes and five WSFL conference championships. He coached four NJCAA All-Americans and five WSFL all-conference players.

A 2006 graduate of West Jordan High School in West Jordan, Utah, Meifu earned Utah 5A First Team All-State honors as a senior at the running back position.

He graduated in 2008 from Snow College with an associate of science degree and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in business from Utah State University in 2012.

Mike is married to the former Jamie Driggs and they have one son, Maximus.
