NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Having assisted the 2013 football program to its most successful season in school history, nine Southern Virginia University football scholar-athletes represented the team by being named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic Team.
The Knights represented nine of the 13 honorees on the list. Also recognized were Brock Bullock of The Apprentice School, Caleb Weston and Corey Vinson of Ave Maria University and Logan Fetterhoff of Williamson College.
"These nine young men are the best of what college football has to offer," said Southern Virginia head coach DeLane Fitzgerald. "They are good people, good students, and good football players. Our coaching staff is happy to coach them and our university is happy to have them representing us."
To be named to a USCAA All-Academic Team, a scholar-athlete must be an upperclassman that has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher over the course of his/her career. The grade reports submitted were as of the Spring 2013 semester.
The Knights finished the 2013 season ranked No. 1 in the USCAA based on the final USCAA coaches' poll following an 8-2 season, its most successful in program history as they surpassed the 2007 team that finished with a 6-5 record.
