Football Earns Six All-Academic Honors

Written by Sean Dahlin

BUENA VISTA, Va.—The United States Collegiate Athletic Association today announced its 2012 football All-Academic selections honoring six Southern Virginia University Knights.

Junior offensive lineman Michael Greer (Tempe, Ariz.) and senior kicker Brett Murray (Hollywood, Fla.) headlined the Southern Virginia selections as both earned their second all-academic honors—Greer was named USCAA All-Academic member in 2009 while Murray was named in 2011.

"Michael [Greer] and Brett [Murray] are model scholar-athletes within our football program," said fourth-year Head Coach DeLane Fitzgerald. "Both are very deserving of their second selection at Southern Virginia for their hard work in the classroom."

Joining Greer and Murray on the USCAA All-Academic squad are sophomore wide receivers Ethan Condiff (Spring, Texas) and Michael Goering (Agency, Iowa), senior co-captain tight end Jeff Waldron (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and junior running back Tod Workman (Springerville, Ariz.).

Football's six All-Academic selections are the most in program's ten-year history.

"I'm very proud of those that accomplished USCAA All-Academic honors this year," said Fitzgerald. "These awards are another testament of the top-notch character portrayed by this year's team."
