Winsor Named USCAA Defensive Player of the Week

BUENA VISTA, Va.−Both USA College Football, Inc. and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association today announced junior linebacker Dakoda Winsor as USCAA Defensive Player of the Week.

Winsor, who was also named to the 2012 USCAA Preseason All-America team by USA College Football, Inc., earned week two's 2012 Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in last Saturday's 24-14 win against North Carolina Wesleyan.

Winsor recorded a game-high 12 tackles (5 solo, 7 assisted) and also grabbed a pivitol fourth-quarter interception for the Knights.

Winsor was a key component in Southern Virginia's defense that held the Battling Bishops offense to just one touchdown—N.C. Wesleyan's only other touchdown of the game came on a 60-yard punt return.

"Dakoda made a key interception for us late in the game," said fourth-year Head Coach DeLane Fitzgerald. "He's one of the leaders on our defense and is deserving of the award."
