Football Announces 2011 Recruiting Class

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Southern Virginia University head football coach DeLane Fitzgerald today announced his 2011 recruiting class, which consists of 52 players who have committed to the Southern Virginia football program for the upcoming season.

Fitzgerald and his coaching staff are very excited about the quality of the incoming student-athletes.

"These young men are coming to Southern Virginia University with the three things we look for in a football player," said Fitzgerald. "They are good on the field, good in the classroom, and of high character in everything they do."

"This may be the best recruiting class in program history. These young men are going to have the opportunity to win a lot of football games."

In addition to the 52 signees who are committed for the fall, four students-athletes joined the Southern Virginia football team over winter break. These four newcomers are currently attending classes and practicing with the team in preparation for the fall season.

"Our coaching staff has done a tremendous job thus far of putting together a great incoming class," said Fitzgerald. "We still have five to seven spots left on our roster to fill, but this is definitely a great start."
