Mellor Named Second Team All-State By VaSID

LEXINGTON, Va. - Senior linebacker, Matt Mellor, is ending his career on several positive notes, as he earns another post-season award with a spot on the Virginia College Sports Information Director's All-State Second Team. The team is made up of players in the state of Virginia. The players play for schools at the NCAA D.II, D.III and NAIA levels. Team members are voted on by the sports information directors at the universities and colleges in Virginia.

Mellor had a standout season for the Knights as he finished one of the most prolific careers in SVU history. Mellor finished with 269 tackles, making him the all-time leader in tackles for the Knights. Mellor also holds a number of records including most unassisted tackles (149), most punt yardage (4132), among several other punting records, and defensive records.

Mellor was named to the NAIA All-Independent pre-season team, and then finished off the season with a spot on the NAIA All-Independent First Team. Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Mellor will graduate this month, and then will head to dental school. After being accepted to one of the best dental schools in the country in the University of Washington, Mellor will have a sort f homecoming as he returns to the state he grew up in.
