BUENA VISTA, Va. - Freshman kicker Tyler Bowen, and redshirt freshman wide receiver, Brick Wilce, have been named the NAIA Independent Special Teams Player, and Freshman Player of the Week for the Southern Virginia football team. The duo earned the awards after performances against Kentucky Christian, helping the Knights get a 45-28 win.
Bowen was 1-for-1 in the field goal department, as he knocked through a 24-yard try in the first quarter of the game. He added six more PAT's in the game, as the Knights were able to score early and often against the Knights of KCU.
Wilce, had another solid performance in the receiving game, as he pulled in eight catches for 166-yards. Wilce also had two touchdown receptions in the game. Both scoring catches came in the second half, as the Knights had to comeback for a win over the hosts.
The duo adds to two other players for SVU who have already been named to NAIA Independent teams this season. Matt Mello was named a special teams player of the week, and Fine Itaaehau was named as freshman of the week.
