BUENA VISTA, Va. - Senior linebacker, Matt Mellor, recorded three tackles against the Apprentice School, and with that total became the all-time leader in tackles in Southern Virginia University football history. Mellor recorded the record breaking tackle in the first quarter of the game against the Builders, as he stopped a receiver after a catch on The Builders' second drive.
Mellor recorded his 263rd-tackle for his career, and moved one past the previous holder, Shea Owens. Mellor added his third later in the game, and will have two more games to add to his total.
The linebacker recorded his first tackle in 2004 against Averett where he recorded 3-tackles. After the 2004 season, Mellor left for a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mellor returned for the 2008 season, and immediately went back to work recording tackles.
Mellor also holds the record for most unassisted tackles with 163, and he is in the top-5 in punting categories for the Knights.
