Fitzgerald Announces Six More Signings

BUENA VISTA, Va. The Southern Virginia Football team has announced six new signings for the 2010 team. Head Coach DeLane Fitzgerald and his staff are looking to find the players to help the program continue to grow, and seek a second winning season in program history in 2010. Fitzgerald inked six more players for the team, and this is in addition to several players who are already here for the spring semester along with 16 recruits named earlier. The recruiting for the Knights is not finished, as coaches still have players targeted to sign over the coming weeks. As those players are signed they will be announced. The newest group of signings is as follows.

Caleb Bennett- 5-11 TB

Hometown: Malad, ID. ... High School: Malad ... Parents are Ralph and Lamona Bennett... Lettered three years in football for McKay Young, and also lettered in basketball and track... Named All-District 2nd Team Linebacker, 1st Team Running Back... Named All-district MVP and All-State 1st Team Running Back... Named Team Captain... Holds school single game rushing record, single season rushing record, and career rushing and touchdown records... Member of Band and Pep Band, and participated in the swing choir... Was an Eagle Scout... Also recruited by Montana Tech.

Colby Clarington- 6-0 WR

Hometown: Macon, GA. ... High School: Rutland ... Parents are Connie & Leonard Williams... Lettered three years in football for George Collins... Won Best Dressed and 4-Years Perfect Attendance... high school teammates DeVante Dukes, Michael Johnson and Markese Farrar also signed with SVU.

 

Jacob Lee- 6-4 OL

Hometown: Mt. Olive, N.C. ... High School: East Duplin ... Parents are Johnny & Lee Ann Lee... Lettered two years in football for Bryan Aldridge, and also lettered in track & field... Named Offensive Player of the Year for East Duplin HS in 2008... All-Area Honorable Mention 2006... All-Area First Team OL 2007... A National Tech Honor Society Member... is an Eagle Scout.

Bryan Lorenzen- 6-0 WR

Hometown: South Jordan, UT. ... High School: Bingham ... Parents are Mark & Trisha Lorenzen... Lettered two years in football for Dave Peck, and also lettered two years in track... Team was 2008 & 2009 Region Champs... Team was 2009 stats Champs, and 2008 Runner-Up.

Alex Martinez- 5-9 LB

Hometown: Mesa, AZ. ... High School: Mountain View ... Parents are Henry & Dana Martinez... Lettered two years in football for Tom Joseph, and also lettered in wrestling... Named 2nd Team All-Region Linebacker in 2009... Team was Region Champs in 2009 & 2008... 9th grade Wrestling MVP... J.V. Wrestling Region Champs 2007... J.V Football Region Champs 2007.

Jace Peterson- 6-0 S

Hometown: Salt Lake City, UT. ... High School: Olympus ... Parents are Brad & Shona Peterson... Lettered three years in football, the last for Mike Smith, former SVU Head Coach, and also lettered in baseball... Was All-Region for Football... Was Freshman Student of the Year... Was an Eagle Scout, on the seminary council presidency, and student council... A 2008-2009 member of the National Rugby Champions highland Rugby team
