Neely Pendleton was named Head Spirit Squad Coach after her first year at the helm of Southern Virginia's Cheer Team. 

Pendleton graduated from Southern Virginia with a Bachelor's of Art in Spanish and a minor in early childhood education. She was a student travel advisor for travel study program to Madrid, Spain and a member of the Spanish club. While attending Southern Virginia she was a member of the varsity cheer team for four years and served as co-captain before graduating in 2011. 

After graduating she served as the head cheer coach before accompanying her husband to graduate school at Virginia Tech. Pendleton worked as a Spanish teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools. From 2013-15 she served as the head cheerleading coach at Blacksburg High School and Auburn Middle School.

Coach Pendleton served a Spanish-speaking mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tempe, Arizona from 2007-09.

Neely and her husband, Bryce, currently reside in Buena Vista, Virginia with their puppy, Tia.

Shalisa Kimber enters her first season as an assistant dance coach.
 
Kimber brings a wealth of choreography and teaching experience to Southern Virginia. 
 
Kimber graduated in the spring of 2017 from Brigham Young University with a degree in human development and a minor in contemporary dance. She participated in BYU's Hip Hop Club, and lead her team to be named BYU's Best Dance Crew. She also loved choreographing, collaborating, and performing with her peers.
 
From 2012-14, Coach Kimber served a full-time proselyting mission in Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon returning home, she choreographed and taught for various performing groups, including the Alpine and Highland Distinguished Young Women programs, Showcase USA Dance Studio, and the American Fork High School Drill Team.
 
Shalisa is excited to be back on the East coast with her husband, Dallin, who will be playing lacrosse and finishing a mathematics degree. They currently reside in Buena Vista, Va.

Merrilyn Porter enters her first season as an assistant dance coach.
 
Merrilyn grew up in Utah and Wyoming, dancing competitively in high school with an emphasis in lyrical jazz and military. She also participated in spearheading the swing dance club and choreographed waltz, swing, and country swing dancing.
 
She graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in landscape management in 2015. While in college she continued dancing in lyrical jazz and learning modern dance. 
 
Merrilyn served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Malaga Spain from 2012-14. 

She and her husband, Nick, who serves as the Director of Athletic Communications, reside in Buena Vista and have one son and one on the way.
